About me.
My backpacking life started on March 10th, 1988 when I left Australia with 3 mates on a trip to London with stopovers in Singapore, Thailand & India. Oh so long, long ago. From these eye opening days going forward I caught the travel bug and it has remained to this day. I love so much about travel, not only the usual comments you hear about people, culture, sights, sounds and smells, I also love a more selfish internal aspect as well. When I travel I feel challenged in a unique way. There is a raw intrinsic or instinctual feeling within that certain decisions you make may have ‘genuine’ real life consequences and the further off the beaten track you go, the greater the weight these decisions have. Travelling brings to the fore the need to either analyse the situation you are in correctly, or trust your instincts to make the right decision if time for analysis is short. From arriving on a late night bus to a dodgy looking bloke saying that he has a house for you to stay, to being encircled by a group of people at a local market in Peru although the market itself is basically empty. Making decisions on where to go, when to leave, how to get there, even, if to go there at all. Of course I am not talking about first world countries where many situations are controlled and safe, but rather out of the way areas where adventure seems to be the name of the game. This is not travelling on a pre-determined schedule, this is backpacking on the seat of your pants and this is the travel I love.
