Bolivia – My Trip may be Ending

The harsh realities of life are only now just hitting home. Now in La Paz, Bolivia. Cities like La Paz have heaps of small businesses and you often find that businesses of the same type are all found in the same area. Like optometrists for example. So today I walked and walked just to get lost and to see what would be around the next corner. This brings me to the reason I sadly must tell you that my trip will have to end prematurely. You see countries like Bolivia can be very dangerous. Even with all my years of travelling experience the unlikely can happen and so it came to pass. I rounded a corner to be confronted by.....a district of hairdressers. Bolivian hairdressers!! Now I have been around the world enough to have met quite a few brave fools that have taken the plunge overseas and to have never come out the other side. God bless their souls. And so, as I walked along the street joking with many of the shops as they tried to coerce me into their den of death the reality hit me that one day in the not too near future I will need to either confront this hideous contemplation or, more likely, run away. Travelling is great, but really, there is a quantifiable limit as to its worth and for a man who would rather go to the dentist than get a haircut I may have found my match. For those at home I may see you sooner than you imagined.

But then again...

  1. If only your long-suffering parents could have reached LaPaz before you turned the corner… and paid a shearer to produce a noteworthy fleece.
    Maybe at another Time!
Trouble is we might not recognise an old shorn ram as a relative.
    Your loving parents.

  2. Hey Dave!
It was nice meeting you and doing the rafting and canyoning together. Wish you a good further trip.

Thanks for the post. I also enjoyed our time together. Hopefully we can meet again when you finish your volunteering. After all, we still have some unfinished business with some late night partying.
Enjoy your trip and keep those locals smiling.

    1. Naomi. Some mtb’ing definitely on the cards. So many touristicos on mtb going down from La Paz to Coroico. Been there so decided to pass. Will keep my eyes open for opportunities. Pictures and vids will be taken. Hope you and Ted are good.
      Chow for now.
      Mwah.

  3. Dave, I know your struggles. It’s tough to have hair that defines us. As a life-long ginger, I have sometimes found my hair a blessing and a cause. I second Ryans comments – your hair is your strength.

All well here in Impala Place.

Glad all is well in Impala. I am with you when it comes to defining oneself by your hair. No problems on this side. Can’t see any blades getting near my precious, at least for a while yet.
(Maybe us types should create a secret handshake?)

  4. Dave…..You are worried ?..Is it about the hair..
    Look up a song..
‘Almost cut my hair’..By the band Crosby Stills and Nash..Dejavu album.
From the early days…and this may help soothe any doubts and give you some power.

Enjoy the freedom and try to resist a boomerang returning early situation…
As it would be of any comfort to say my dredlocks are halfway down my back and still growing … sometimes conservative eyes do cause concern…Not for you to worry about, not really your issue.
A beenie to tuck the hair away helps ease judgmental congestion.

Keep on Keepin on Man and Know you are going to be alright. Trust your instinct and enjoy your experience…Not be led by fear.
The take it easy and chill factor applies.
    Travel on.
Not much happening in Aus’ anyway…same as it was ,same as it is.
Welcoming you with warmth when the time is right.
    Strength to you Man.
From Al….member of the wander wander tribe…People wonder where we are from as we wander on.
    Lol often.

No problems round here. Just some jest with the locals and thought I would have a bit of fun with the title of the blog with family and friends. Still looking like a long trip. Cheers for the song tip.
